In the present study, wholesome tissue protective efficiency of the ethanolic extract of Tinospora cordifolia stems in mice in terms of whole body survival, genotoxicity, cell proliferation and hematological profile have been investigated. The animals were divided into four groups having six animals in each. Group I, (Control), received vehicle, Group II received orally ethanolic extract of Tinospora cordifolia (500mg/kg), Group III was irradiated with 60Co radiation (external gamma radiation of 4 GY for 24h), and animals of Group IV were irradiated with 60Co radiation (external gamma radiation of 4 GY for 24 h) and given orally ethanolic extract of Tinospora cordifolia (500mg/kg), for seven days. On the 8th day all the animals were sacrificed, the blood was collected and hematological cell profile was analyzed. Intestine was removed and its histopathology was done and their mitotic index and crypt of villi was counted. The drug shows significant tissue protective activity (P<0.05) and shows normalization in hematological cell profile in irradiated animals.Keywords

The wound healing property of polyherbal formulation containing the extract of Psidium guajava and Ficus religiosa was evaluated in excision and burn wound model. The formulation responded significantly in both the wound models tested. The results were comparable in terms of wound contracting ability and epithelialization time. Thus, this exploration confirms the use of formulation containing the extract of Psidium guajava and Ficus religiosa as a wound healing agent.Keywords

The ethanolic extract of the leaves and fruits of Ficus religiosa Linn. was evaluated for its antidiabetic activity in normal rats and alloxan induced diabetic rats. Fruit extracts were found to have no effect on normal rats while they were effective in lowering the elevated blood glucose level in experimental diabetic rats. Fruit extract in a dose of 250 mg/kg body weight was found to be more effective than 100 mg/kg body weight.Keywords

The purine analogues are new class of nonclassical antimicrobial agents that binds with riboswitches. Purine (adenine) analogues are having antimicrobial, antifungal, antitumour, antiproliferative, antiviral and activity against HSV-1. Riboswitches are structured RNA domains that can bind directly to specific ligands and regulate gene expression. These RNA elements are located most commonly within the non-coding regions of bacterial mRNAs, because these genes were involved in fundamental metabolic pathways in certain bacterial pathogens. Purine-binding riboswitches may be targets for the development of novel antimicrobial agents. Designed compounds are bound by a purine riboswitches aptamer in vitro with affinities comparable to that of the natural ligand, and several also inhibit microbial growth.Keywords

The discovery of fullerenes has opened a new chapter on the physics and chemistry of carbon. So far, the physical and chemical properties of fullerenes are still under investigation. More research is needed to be done to confirm the suitability of some important application. Some potential applications will need more time for them to become reality. Their unique carbon cage structure coupled with immense scope for derivatization makes fullerenes a potential therapeutic agent. Henceforth chemistry and various potential therapeutic applications of fullerenes have been reviewed in the present paper. These include anti HIV-protease activity, photodynamic DNA cleavage, free radical scavenger, antimicrobial action and use of fullerenes as diagnostic agents.Keywords

Metallurgical and mechanical properties of a weldment depend on its cooling rate and temperature distribution during welding. Temperature distribution and cooling rate are responsible for formation of different microstructures and different size of grain in different zones. If cooling rate and temperature distribution can be predicted in advance it will help the design engineer at the design stage itself to design a good welded joint. Determination of cooling rate and temperature distribution in welding experimentally is very costly and time taking. In this work the cooling rate and temperature distribution was theoretically predicted using ANSYS14 and experimentally verified. For the theoretical thermal analysis, 3D modeling of thermal simulation of arc welding (MIG) process was done by using ANSYS14. The special feature of the analysis is the use of a fast iterative procedure during a single pass welding. Temperature dependent metal properties of AISI 430 were taken from standard data source and were utilized till to the liquid phase. Element shape '3-D 10-Node tetrahedral' (solid 87) was used in 3-D analysis. Conduction and convection are considered as heat transfer mode. The experimental values of welding speed, welding current, and arc voltage were used for theoretical analysis. Thermocouples were used to record welding temperature using data tracker and computer. Five thermocouples were fixed at the middle line of the plate to measure temperature distribution and cooling rate practically. Two plates of FSS were welded by MIG welding in butt joint position in single pass.Keywords

To reduce the computation time, finer mesh was generated where temperature gradient was too high and gradually mesh size was increased away from the heat source. Variations of temperature along the cross section at two positions of the arc were plotted and compared with the experimental and calculated values available in the literature. In the present paper, a three-dimensional transient finite element analysis on heat flow in arc welding under varying arc length conditions have been presented The problem was solved by considering the important factors that influence the heat transfer in arc welding, like temperature dependent material properties, enthalpy and stirring effect in molten pool.
